If you freelance on Fiverr or Upwork from Pakistan, sooner or later you need a way to receive international payments — and for most Pakistani freelancers that way is Payoneer. Payoneer is not a bank, but a global payments platform that lets you receive money from clients and marketplaces and withdraw it to your local Pakistani bank account. Opening an account is free and registration takes only a few minutes — the part that takes time is verification, which Payoneer usually completes within 3 business days after you submit all your documents. This guide follows Payoneer's own official Pakistan guide, step by step, so you can apply once and get approved without the delays beginners usually face.
Quick answer: how to create a Payoneer account in Pakistan
Go to payoneer.com and choose Individual as your account type if you have no registered business. Enter your full legal name and date of birth exactly as they appear on your CNIC or passport, add your home address, your CNIC number, and your Pakistani bank account (IBAN). Then complete the visual identity check with your CNIC or passport plus a live selfie, and upload your documents in the Verification Center. Payoneer usually reviews applications within 3 business days, and you get the approval by email.
Which Payoneer account type should you choose?
During registration Payoneer asks you to pick an account type. Choosing the wrong one is the most common reason applications get stuck, so pick the one that matches your real situation:
| Account type | Best for | What it needs |
|---|---|---|
| Individual | Freelancers and remote workers with no registered business | Government-issued photo ID (CNIC, passport, or driver's license) |
| Sole Proprietor | One-owner business under a personal or trade name | FBR/NTN registration plus your personal ID |
| Company | Business registered with SECP | Company registration documents plus signatory details |
If you only receive payments from Fiverr, Upwork, or a company that hired you, register as an Individual — no business registration is needed. One more rule: only one Payoneer account per person is allowed. If you already have an approved account, or you applied before, a new registration will be automatically rejected, so use your existing account instead.
What you need before you start
Keep these ready before you open the registration form. Every detail must match your official records exactly — a single spelling difference between your form and your CNIC is enough to send your application back for corrections.
- Your full legal name and date of birth — exactly as on your government-issued photo ID. Nicknames and shortened names are not accepted.
- Your home address — your full private residential address. P.O. boxes are not accepted, and the address must appear on a document in your name, such as a bank statement or utility bill.
- Your CNIC, passport, or driver's license number — exactly as it appears on the document.
- A Pakistani bank account in your own name — the account holder's name must exactly match the name you register with. You will need the IBAN, which starts with PK and is usually 24 characters long. You can find it in your bank's mobile app or on your bank statement.
- A link to your online presence (recommended) — your Fiverr or Upwork profile, website, or LinkedIn page. You can proceed without one, but Payoneer may ask for extra documents later.
How to create a Payoneer account in Pakistan: 8 steps
Step 1: Select your account type. Go to payoneer.com and start registration. Choose Individual if you have no business, Sole Proprietor if you have an FBR/NTN-registered business, or Company if your business is registered with SECP. Check the address is payoneer.com before entering any details.
Step 2: Enter your personal details. Type your full legal name and date of birth exactly as on your government-issued photo ID. Nicknames and informal names are not accepted.
Step 3: Provide your residential address. Enter your full private residential address. It does not need to match the address on your CNIC, but it must appear on a valid document in your name, such as a bank statement or utility bill.
Step 4: Enter your ID number. Type your ID number exactly as it appears on your CNIC, driver's license, or passport.
Step 5: Provide your online presence. Add a URL for your website, marketplace store, or social media page to help Payoneer verify your work. You may proceed without one.
Step 6: Connect your bank account. Add the Pakistani bank account for withdrawals. The IBAN is not the same as your account number — it starts with PK and is usually 24 characters long. Find it in your bank app or statement, or ask your bank.
Step 7: Visual identity verification. Submit a government-issued photo ID and take a live selfie in the on-screen oval. The ID photo must be in full color, clear, show the whole document, and match your registration details. For a CNIC, the back side is required; for a passport, the MRZ code must be visible.
Step 8: Submit documents for verification. Upload the required documents in the Verification Center. Payoneer may ask for more — for example, a bank statement from the last 3 months or a utility bill from the last 6 months to confirm your address.
Which IDs does Payoneer accept in Pakistan?
Payoneer accepts a National ID card (CNIC, back side required), a passport, or a driver's license. These are not accepted: a student ID, a digital ID, a voter card, a disability card, or a provisional driver's license or learner's permit. Your ID must not be expired, must be in full color, and must not be a damaged or laminated copy. If your ID photo is blurry or cropped, upload a clearer photo instead of waiting for Payoneer to ask.
After you apply: what happens next
Payoneer usually reviews applications within 3 business days after all requested documents have been submitted. If extra documents are needed, the review may take longer — check the Verification Center inside your Payoneer account for any pending requests. You will be notified by email once your account is approved, so check your inbox and your spam folder if you do not see an update. Until approval, you cannot receive payments, so apply a few days before you actually need the account — for example, before your first Fiverr order clears.
5 mistakes that delay Pakistani applications
- Name mismatch. Your name on Payoneer, your CNIC, and your bank account must match exactly — even a missing middle name can cause a mismatch.
- Wrong ID. Student IDs and digital IDs are not accepted. Use your CNIC, passport, or driver's license only.
- P.O. box or incomplete address. Payoneer needs a full private residential address that appears on a document in your name.
- Expired or damaged ID. Check the expiry date before you start, and do not upload a laminated or punched-hole copy.
- Opening a second account. Only one account per person is allowed, and a second registration is automatically rejected — recover your old account instead.
After approval: receiving your first payment
Once approved, you can connect Payoneer to Fiverr or Upwork and start receiving payments. On Fiverr, your earnings clear after 14 days (7 days for Top Rated, Pro, and Seller Plus accounts), and you can then withdraw them through Payoneer — see our guide on how to withdraw money from Fiverr in Pakistan for the exact fees and limits. From Payoneer, you can move money to your local bank or to a mobile wallet: our guides explain Payoneer to NayaPay and Payoneer to JazzCash withdrawals, and if you work on Upwork, read how to receive Upwork payments in Pakistan.
